Founder & Head Coach of Vienna Chess School

Grandmaster David Shengelia is among the leading chess players in Austria and brings more than 20 years of experience as a coach at the highest level. Over many years, he served as National Team Coach of the Austrian Chess Federation and has played a key role in the development of numerous players.
As a grandmaster, he combines international playing strength with extensive pedagogical experience and a deep understanding of player development across all levels.

With Vienna Chess School, Grandmaster David Shengelia aims to establish a modern and professional chess education program that is unique in Vienna – with daily training, clearly structured levels, and a comprehensive system for players of all strengths.
In advanced and performance-oriented groups, he teaches personally and provides valuable insights into high-level chess.
Vienna Chess School is a modern chess academy located in Vienna’s 4th district, with a central location at Karlsgasse 20, offering structured chess training for children, teenagers, and adults.
Our goal is to teach chess in a clear, inspiring, and professional way – from the very first moves to advanced, competition-level play. Training is organized in clearly structured levels and small groups, allowing each participant to learn and progress at their own pace.
Our programs are designed for both beginners and advanced players. In particular, we place great emphasis on a playful yet systematic approach for younger students, fostering concentration, strategic thinking, and self-confidence.
With regular courses at a dedicated location, we create an environment where chess enthusiasts of all ages can learn, play, and continuously improve together. We combine the joy of the game with a clearly structured training concept and a focus on long-term development.
